You know, it says something about us that is not good when — well, if someone immigrated to our country and asked for an explanation about conservatives, liberals and libertarians, and the task fell to me to explain it to them, and someone put me on a strict limit as far as the number of words to use for my answer (and come to think of it, not a one among those three things is implausible)…I would have to say…

Ohhhh . . . how it hurts when the shoe is on the other foot. With gas prices actually reaching five dollars a gallon in some parts of the country, President Obama and the Democrats want to run and hide -- or at least pretend it isn't happening. But they were the first ones to scream "foul" and blame the

The Korans burned in Afghanistan were destroyed not out of malice, but out of concern. They were “mishandled” but not intentionally. Detainees had written in them, sending messages to one another. Writing in a Koran is itself considered blasphemous.

Not that anyone cares.

Riots ensued. This led to two Americans being killed soon after.

This country is on track to go bankrupt and default on its debt within the next 10-15 years unless something changes drastically. It doesn’t have to happen, but the Democratic Party seems to be adamantly opposed to doing anything to stop it because it would mean spending less money.

Shell shocked doesn’t quite convey what we felt last week when we filled up with gas here and the price per gallon jumped 35 cents in two days. We spoke to others filling their tanks and they were all dazed and angry as well. Our only difference is we saw this coming even before Obama was elected. Then came the fun-filled trip to the store (we go to a variety of them here and all had similar results), where we witnessed a 20% jump in overall grocery prices in one week. We looked at each other and said, “How are we

Couple interesting polls out to share. The first is this one from The Hill in which they asked likely voters what they believed would be a good tax rate for the rich.

Three-quarters of likely voters believe the nation’s top earners should pay lower, not higher, tax rates, according to a new poll for The Hill.

Perhaps because we are such a practical society, we perceive “positive” activity as inherently more valuable: it is productive, upbeat and busy, rather than quiet and passive. Or perhaps we simply find that the latter — the old-fashioned sacrifice and powering down — is difficult and when something is difficult and we fail, we feel bad about ourselves. And we can’t have that now, can we? But to over-accent-u-ate the positive in Lent distorts our understanding a bit; it re-inforces this notion of sacrifice-as-negative, built upon “no,” on saying “I can’t” instead of “I can.”

Over the weekend he called for Saudi Arabia to increase oil production, totally ignoring a country with larger energy reserves than Saudi Arabia--The United States of America.

Russell Shaw explains why the Catholic Church is so widely hated: The Catholic Church adheres to an ethic of substantive human purposes—things like life, truth, and justice—that establish the parameters of ethically acceptable choices and behavior. To do the right thing is to act within these boundaries; to do what is wrong is to act outside them. The secularist mindset, by contrast, favors...

Last week we all got a great lesson in how the left promotes a lie to make Republicans the enemy and this time President Obama was a chief participant. This is how the game is played: the left-leaning media establishment makes a claim about how rotten Republicans are and Obama then echoes the claim and presents it as the true state of Republican opposition to his policies. The result is that we have a partisan opinion foisted on the public as truth about how mean the GOP is to this poor, well-meaning president. A false media narrative is established by

Jeremy Lin, the famed nouveau New York Knicks basketball icon, must be about tired of this foolishness at this point. Oh, I am not talking about racism being perpetrated against him, but the claims of almost racism that were accidentally, but not really, perpetrated against him. This time it is the lefty ice cream empire Ben and Jerry's apologizing for their accidental, not really, sort-a-kinda, racism aimed at Mr. Linsanity himself.

At a town hall, Rep. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) tried to convince her angry constituents that the recent HHS contraception mandate doesn’t apply to Catholic hospitals because Obama’s “accomodation” requires insurance companies to pay. The gentleman in this clip explains that the Catholic hospitals are self-insured (like more than half of the employers in the U.S.) and thus still being forced to pay. And he has more to say about the historical role of Catholics in health care.

My Congressman, Steve Israel is introducing a new piece of legislation. No its not a ban on congressmen accepting campaign donations from companies related to their committee assignments, that would hurt his reelection campaign. Nor is it a ban on congressmen taking money from people who served time in jail for selling arms to America's enemies that too would hurt the Congressman's efforts. With the economy still faltering, and high gas prices threatening to kill an already feeble recovery, Congressman Israel is working on something very important--"Hey Gang lets move voting from Tuesday to the weekend."
