Donald Trump scored a gentleman’s “C” in his first debate with Hillary Clinton. She was programmed, like one of those androids from the film “Westworld,” spewing out well-rehearsed sound bites, smiling (sometimes condescendingly), and even tossing in a few wiggles. It was all designed to make her look warm and wonderful.

I expended most of my authorial energy today attacking PBS’s Frontline show The Choice 2016, which purported to delve into Hillary’s and Donald’s character to help inform people in advance of the election but which was, in fact, a Hillary hagiography and a Donald hit piece. Still, there are a few more election-related articles I’d like to share with you. (Read more)

Tuesday night, PBS’s Frontline premiered The Choice 2016, which purported to be a documentary examining the lives and careers of Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. It was not, in fact, an honest documentary. It was a savage hit piece, using a patina of documentary sobriety to hide its core dishonesty. To appreciate just how awful it was, you have to know a bit about Frontline. It’s a long-running show that always focuses on very serious subjects. Whether at home or abroad, it’s viewpoint is hard Left, although it will never acknowledge that it has a bias. Indeed, to prove that it

Monday night’s debate moderator, NBC’s Lester Holt, asked Donald Trump why he “perpetuated a false claim that the nation’s first black president was not a natural-born citizen.” Hillary Clinton added that Trump “has a long record of engaging in racist behavior, and the birther lie was a very hurtful one.”

The political press corps has known Bob Stern as the straight-arrow president of Los Angeles’ Center for Governmental Studies who helped Jerry Brown create the Fair Political Practices Commission in 1974. Since the center closed its L.A. offices in 2011, Stern seems to have developed a devious side — or was it there all along? I ask, because in his “The November Election” course at UCLA extension, Stern managed to set up a scenario wherein a substantial majority — he thinks two-thirds of the class of westside liberals, his wife, Joan, says three-quarters — raised their hands when asked if

Why not turn the internet over to the UN? Just because Al Gore invented it doesn’t mean it belongs to us. So why should the U.S. remain the protector of the open Internet? We’ve had it long enough, let’s give others a chance to play. Let’s let other countries, many of which want a closed, censored internet, take charge for awhile and see how that works out...

I look away for a couple of days, and WOW! Magazine, the Watcher’s Council’s collaborative online magazine, simply explodes with content, all of it good. And remember, as you look at these articles, being informed matters. If you’re not informed, you’re like the dopes who watch PBS Frontline’s recent “documentary” about the two candidates and come away believing that Hillary is a brilliant saint, while Donald is a psychopath from the cradle. It is one of the most duplicitous pieces of propaganda I’ve ever seen, presented in a staid, scholarly way. I’ll try to write more about it tomorrow. Meanwhile, if

Yes, I know you’ve been dying for your weekly Dancing With The Stars update. Monday night’s show was a rushed one because it had only an hour due to the debate. In that hour, the twelve remaining stars were divided into competitive pairs that had to do the same dance. The couple in the pair who got the highest score could not be disqualified this week. Bibi’s speech to the UN. Bibi Netanyahu gave an amazing speech to the UN in which, after cheerfully castigating the UN for its biased and reprehensible behavior, he equally cheerfully assured the UN that Israel is a thriving, dynamic culture making strong new alliances all over the world. It was fun yesterday looking at all the so-called snap polls after the debate that named Trump as the winner. (SNIP) I spent an entire day in the People’s Republic of Ann Arbor, where once upon a time every other car proudly sported an Obama bumper sticker. Then, earlier this year, many of the former Obama disciples quietly removed the detritus of the prior 8 years and replaced it with stickers identifying the new socialist lord and savior: Bernie Sanders. Nary a Prius could be found that wasn’t voting for the Bern! And now they’ve all been...

If we assume that temperatures really are rising, and then take a larger leap and assume that this is a problem, the solution isn’t for Big Government to use draconian levels of taxation and regulation to dramatically lower our standard of living. An easier approach would be to move the sensors away from the concrete:

I scored Trump as the victor in the debate because he did what he needed to persuade, whereas Hectoring Hillary’s “teacher’s pet” stylings and grackle voice were offputting. Here’s are some excerpts from what other commentators have to say about Trump and Hillary. What a lot of them have in common is something I noted, which is that Hillary emitted “fried air” — a bunch of orotund phrases that meant nothing. (Read more)

I’m making a slight change to how I present political cartoons in future. Some of my blog friends have reported expensive, losing fights because they published political cartoons or other images that were obviously, or not so obviously, subject to copyright claims. To prevent that, I will no longer publish proprietorial political cartoons. Instead, you’ll just find here endless and wonderful political cartoons and social issue posters that creative people have freely released into the world. (View images)

Let’s step back, as we approach the first presidential debate of the 2016 campaign, and look back to try to understand how voting patterns have changed over a generation, by comparing the 2012 presidential results with those of 1988 — keeping in mind possible shifts since 2012 suggested by 2016 polling.
